We were delighted to be invited again to be part of the Rural Skills demonstration area at The North Devon Show.
The weather during the first part of the morning did not bode well with driving rain and gale force winds. However by around 11 am the rain stopped, the wind dropped and even the sun came out. Our stand was greeted with a mass of children and their parents ready to ‘plaster’ with clay daub onto model animals made from chicken wire. This attracted all ages from toddlers who could barely hold a small trowel, teenagers and adults.
We also demonstrated lime plastering and cob building. Members of the public could practice plastering using clay daub onto our demonstration panel and also try their skill at cob building.
Apart from the fun elements of the display we were able to give advice to people visiting the stand regarding their particular building and repair requirements. We could give guidance on what materials they may require and the correct way to use them.
The day was an enormous success, not only for J & J Sharpe but for The North Devon Show in general.
