Jerry and Jan Sharpe have spent the past year building a new house. In keeping with the local Devon vernacular the house is constructed from cob, a mixture of sub soil, (with a clay content) and straw.

Atrium area to front door. The platform links the two ends of the house. Also showing double height lime plastered cob walls.
The finished render. We used a rough cast technique on the cob using lime mortar. This has greater water shedding properties and requires less maintenance.
Sitting Room - Cob walls are lime plastered and finished with a fine lime skim. The limewash was colour is a bespoke lime wash colour. The internal door leads to the atrium.
Kitchen & Dining Area - Walls are lime plastered and finished with 'Tavy' limewash from our colour range. Floor is made from sieved cob, straw and sand. It is sealed with a mixture of linseed oil and natural turpentine. The finish is a natural hard resin oil.
